Antietam Quilt Guild stitches for local nonprofits

The Herald-Mail

A homemade quilt, stitched with care and attention to detail, naturally conveys comfort. And the members of the Antietam Quilt Guild, based in Hagerstown, have been putting their skills to work for local nonprofits.

This year, the guild has donated 58 lap quilts, 112 adult clothing protectors (bibs), 13 twin-size quilts and one full-size quilt to these organizations, including Coffman Nursing Home, Sleep in Heavenly Peace, CASA, Creekside Nursing Home, Meritus NICU and Holly Place.

And they recently donated half the proceeds from a quilt raffle to It's a Blessing to Be a Blessing, a nonprofit that provides food, clothing and other resources to those in need. During the guild's meeting earlier this month, members presented founder Dierdre Norris — known in the community as Mama Dee — with a check for more than $1,300.
