A Maryland man accused of cyberstalking and harassing his ex-girlfriend in West Virginia with hundreds of calls and messages has been charged, federal prosecutors said.
Derik Wayne Bowers, 44, of Hagerstown, Maryland, was indicted on one count of stalking by a federal grand jury, according to a news release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of West Virginia.
Prosecutors said Bowers allegedly harassed and intimidated his former girlfriend through text messages, phone calls and on Facebook for several months.
Bowers is accused of calling the victim in Morgan County, West Virginia, 815 times during a 48-hour period and sending thousands of harassing text messages over the course of several months.
Prosecutors said Bowers also used social media posts to try to embarrass the woman and interfere with her livelihood, the news release said.
If convicted, Bowers faces up to five years in prison.
