Guthrie County Roads have been seeing increased law enforcement traffic in recent weeks.

Iowa State Patrol Trooper Shelby McCreedy says this is because law enforcement entities across the state, including the Iowa State Patrol have joined the National Safety Bureau’s “Click it or Ticket” campaign, which finishes on Sunday. She tells Raccoon Valley Radio why they want to make sure everyone is safe.

“What we are encouraging is not only following the law, which is being restrained in the front seat if you’re 18 or over, but it’s also buckling up in the back seat, because statistics show that you’re two and a half times more likely to die if a rear passenger is unrestrained.”

McCreedy mentions that even though Iowa laws are highly compliant with federal law, there has been an increase this year so far in traffic fatalities, adding that last year 55-percent were unrestrained individuals, and that so far this year that number is in the 60-percent range.
