Gunnison Mountain Bike Team Trip To Fruita
A few weekends ago, the Gunnison high school mountain bike team went on a three-day trip to Fruita, Colorado. Although they had a few members missing, six members of the team participated and 3 others interested in joining the team. Some riders have been training through winter, to get ready for the state championship. All the female readers met the criteria to enter and race against some of the most talented riders in Colorado. That’s why the majority of the team jumped at the opportunity to be able to ride with their teammates.
Finishing off the Golf Season
The Gunnison High School girls golf team competed recently in Salida and Grand Junction and at the home tournament in Gunnison, which were the last regular-season tournaments of the year The team continues to improve at every tournament, and several members are set to compete in regionals. In Salida they placed 7th out of 9 teams and at the Bookcliff course they placed 10th out of 15 teams, with Madison Vollendorf placing 1st and Aiden Tomlin joining varsity for the first time. Aiden said that she likes playing with varsity because you don’t play in a scramble like the jv.
GHS Baseball Team Knocks Their Competition Out of the Park
The Gunnison High School (GHS) baseball team had an intense season this year with 10 wins and 12 losses the whole season and four wins and five losses in league. The team finished the season with a three game winning streak. Coach Tom Percival stated that his favorite highlight of the season was the team’s first win against North Fork. “I enjoyed watching the boys grow as individuals and as one team,” stated Percival. “We definitely improved as the season went on.”
