Epiphone and Yungblud team up for a rare signature SG Junior

British artist Yungblud has become the latest signature Epiphone artist, with the two joining forces for a recreation of his beloved ‘64 SG Junior.

The 26-year-old pop-punk and alt-rock guitarist, from Yorkshire, England, has gained fame for his energetic stage presence and voice-of-the-people music.

His music has consistently tackled issues close to the hearts of his predominantly Gen Z audience, such as assault, troubled upbringings, and political corruption, which has earned him a fanbase millions strong across the globe. Epiphone, naturally, wishes to ingratiate itself with that growing community.

Releasing as a limited edition run, the mahogany body electric guitar has a glued-in, SlimTaper mahogany neck with a C-profile and 22-fret, medium jumbo laurel fretboard, mirroring Yungblud’s workhorse.

Being a Junior model, its electronics are typically simple, offering a single Dogear Epiphone P-90 Pro pickup in the bridge position and controls for Volume and Tone.

It also features Epiphone Deluxe Vintage tuners and a Graph Tech nut for tuning stability – a crucial factor for Yungblud’s relentless performances.

At the other end, the strings are anchored by a compensated wraparound bridge for prolonged sustain.

The SG proper is an all-time classic, favored by Angus Young, avid collector Pete Townshend, and Sister Rosetta Tharpe. Yet, unlike the Les Paul Junior, the stripped-back version of the SG hasn’t seen quite as much love over the years, making this a unique signature build.

Its place away from the limelight provided much of the appeal of the SG Junior for Yungblud.

“Guitars and rock music have always been a fundamental part of my life,” he says, adding that they are “literally my education. I grew up on the counter of a guitar shop, and I’ve been dusting them since I was three years old.

“The reason why I play a White ‘64 SG Junior is because, growing up, [the] musicians who were important in my life were Angus Young and Billie Joe Armstrong.

“I was lucky because I found a guitar that represented both parts of my inspiration and yet has been famously played by no one but me. This SG Junior is entirely my own, and it already looks fucking iconic.”

An Epiphone hardshell case is included with each guitar, and the case boasts a hot pink interior with a Yungblud die-cut bumper sticker found inside.

Echoing Yungblud’s decisions to make all of his ventures financially accessible for all, the guitar is priced at $599.
