A man was arrested after assaulting a stranger on a TriMet MAX platform in Gresham on Wednesday, says the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office.
Aldo Scott, 24, was charged with Assault II and Robbery II.
According to police, Scott approached a man standing on the MAX platform. Scott began to talk to the man, and the man started backing away from Scott.
Scott is then reported to have suddenly punched the man in the face multiple times. The victim fell down on the platform due to this assault, and police say Scott began kicking him. Scott then took the man’s hat and ran away.
A Gresham PD officer subsequently apprehended him.
Custody was transferred to a Transit Police deputy, and Scott was taken to jail and booked on the aforementioned.
The victim, who stated he did not know Scott, was taken to the hospital and and treated for injuries to his face and head.
According to court documents, Scott said he didn't know his address, and had moved to Portland "2-3 months ago" from Idaho.
The documents state that Scott told police he is unemployed and has a history of drug use. He also has an existing arrest warrant out of Idaho for controlled substance possession and injury to a child.
Scott will be in court Thursday afternoon.
