GREENSBORO, N.C. (WGHP) — Three people have been arrested after multiple homes were hit in drive-by shootings, and a person was carjacked, according to Greensboro police.

Police say that just before 1 a.m. on Sunday, police responded to a home on Huntley Court that had been shot into, and they located several bullet holes on the outside of the home.

Around 5:45 p.m., the same home was shot a second time. Around the same time, police received a call about a shooting at a home on Flag Street where they found bullet holes in a vehicle and in the home.

No one was hurt in any of these shootings.

After an investigation, police determined that a carjacking just before 4 a.m. on South Raleigh Street was related, believing it may be the suspect vehicle in the three shootings.

They located the stolen vehicle on Sunday evening, and five people got out and ran away, but they were all taken into custody. Two guns were also found.

Fontay Latiyf Shaw and Amiri Lashawn Wilson, both 18, were charged with:

  • shooting into an occupied dwelling
  • discharging within city limits
  • carrying a concealed weapon
  • resist, delay or obstruct a law enforcement officer
  • contributing to the delinquency of a minor

A 15-year-old suspect was also charged with:

  • shooting into an occupied dwelling
  • discharging within city limits
  • carrying a concealed weapon
  • resist, delay or obstruct a law enforcement officer
  • possession of a firearm by a minor

Shaw and Wilson each received a $100,000 bond.

A Greensboro mom said one of the bullets went through her 9-year-old son’s window.

It’s just ridiculous what’s going on now,” said Shakiba Broadnax, a Flag Street resident.

Broadnax is shaken up from the shooting in her neighborhood, and her children are as well.

“It is sickening. I don’t know how to protect my kids anymore because I can’t even do it in a house,” Broadnax said.

Broadnax says when the shots came close to the Flag Street home, she quickly rushed to cover her son and checked on her other children.

“I was in the room doing my homework, and I heard some shots,” Broadnax said. “My nine-year-old son immediately ran over to the window.”

One of the bullets went through her 9-year-old son’s window, across the room and into a wall.

When the firing stopped, Broadnax looked out of her window to assess the situation.

“I could see four guys with masks on running … and one of them had a gun in their hand,” Broadnax said.

The shootings happened the same weekend local gun violence prevention awareness events were held for national gun violence prevention month, disappointing those with initiatives to address it locally.

“Whenever you see these numbers, you see 15-year-old, 18-year-olds, being involved in these sorts of incidents, shooting inside residential buildings … the work that we’re trying to actually do to cultivate individuals of this age group to hopefully reach into the mindset, try to change it,” said Arthur Durham, violence prevention coordinator for the Greensboro Office of Community Safety.

“I have a park right here behind my house. And my kids have never been there to play because incidents like this,” Broadnax said.

Broadnax’s car was also shot into.

Greensboro police say when areas are under investigation or experiencing repeated problems, they will increase patrols in the area.
