5 changes to Idaho's food-and-drink scene: who's opening, closing
Boise’s food-and-drink scene saw a flurry of changes this week, with a bar relocating, a longtime restaurant reopening and a chain pulling back. Here’s a quick rundown of the latest updates affecting local diners. The Alley Lounge, a vinyl-focused bar that closed in June, plans to reopen by year’s end at 113 S. 5th St. in a Boise space with twice the capacity of its original alley location. Tasso, a well-reviewed sandwich and scratch-made ice cream shop at 342 E. State St. in Eagle, plans to close Sunday after relocating from downtown Boise in 2021. Wok-Inn Noodle at 4912 W. Emerald St. has reopened with a trimmed-down menu and food-hall-style ordering to make operations manageable for 83-year-old chef Chan Chun-Chung, who plans to retire in a year and a half. After closing in spring, Boise bar with ‘fantastic vibe' to reopen in larger spot
A unique, diminutive Boise bar that shuttered in June has news for former regulars. And it’s the type that will be music to their ears. The Alley Lounge , a laid-back destination focused on appreciating and listening to vinyl records, plans to open by the end of the year at 113 S. 5th St. The new space will offer twice the capacity of its original alley location, including two areas for private events. “The Alley Lounge has always been about more than a place to grab a drink. It’s about the music, the people, the stories, and the connections that happen when they all come together,” owner Marcus Hunter said in a prepared statement. “We’ve outgrown our original space, and this move gives us an opportunity to continue building on what we’ve created while staying true to the things that make The Alley Lounge special. We’re excited for what’s next.” The Alley Lounge is a place “where records are played to be enjoyed, drinks are thoughtfully selected, and good company is reason enough to stay awhile,” a press release explains. Serving beer and wine, The Alley Lounge won’t have a liquor license. But canned cocktails will be available, Hunter said

No coffee and doughnuts? Dunkin' won't open in proposed Boise location after all
One of the busiest corridors in Boise won’t run on Dunkin’ after all. A proposed State Street site for the coffee-and-doughnut chain’s expansion into the Treasure Valley has been nixed. About seven months after it was revealed that Dunkin’ planned to invade the Boise area, paperwork was filed with the city to take over a Papa Murphy’s pizza restaurant at 6940 W. State St. It’s a relatively high-profile location at Northgate Shopping Center. But on Friday, the architect working on the Dunkin’ project requested that the application be withdrawn. Parties involved were not able to come to an agreement, according to a letter to the city, and building ownership decided not to proceed with the Dunkin’ buildout. The letter referenced concerns about the lack of a grease trap or interceptor in the building. In January, JP Green, partner and retail brokerage specialist at real estate company TOK Commercial , said that Dunkin’ sees potential for up to 20 or more Treasure Valley locations. But so far, no Dunkin’ sites have been formally announced. “I can confirm we are close to signing three leases for Dunkin’,” he told the Statesman weeks ago, “but can’t comment on where until the ink is
