The popcorn machine at this drive-in has been popping kernels since 1953. Same machine. Seventy-plus years of buttery work, and it still clocks in every weekend. That alone would earn a spot on my Idaho bucket list. But the screen out here still runs two movies a night, one after the other, while the rest of the world argues over streaming passwords.

Young Idaho dance director brings Mexican history to life
NAMPA — As Hispanic Heritage Month came to a close Oct. 15, Ballet Folklórico Yareth de Idaho’s founder and director, Marifer Avila, shared how she uses traditional Mexican folkloric dance to tell a bigger story and honor the generations of dancers who came before her. Ballet folklórico refers to traditional cultural dances that capture folk culture and ballet characteristics from different regions in Mexico and Central America. During Mexico’s colonial period, various states and regions had unique folklórico dances that blended Indigenous and Spanish cultures and other European and African influences. Ballet Folklórico de México was created in 1952 by dancer and choreographer Amalia Hernández who — inspired by Mexico’s history and traditional folk and modern dance — revolutionized the concept of traditional dances and classic ballet by interpreting local, political and interpersonal folklore in a theatrical element that transformed the country’s cultural identity . Avila, 23, uses her ballet folklórico group of 33 students and passion for dance to express the historical significance behind each step taken, the attire worn and the stories each song and dance is meant to tell. “This is someone’s history; this is someone’s culture,” Avila said she reminds her dancers. “I just see it
