Hamilton stays perfect with playoff win over Marquette
SUSSEX − Hamilton dominated Marquette from the opening kickoff to defeat the Hilltoppers, 41-7, at home in a WIAA Division 1 football second-round playoff game Friday, Oct. 30. The top-seeded Chargers (11-0) controlled the game, building a 27-0 halftime lead before adding two more touchdowns in the second half to secure the postseason victory over the Hilltoppers (7-4). Hamilton opened the scoring in the first quarter when senior quarterback Cole Erdmann connected with Alex Restivo on a 40-yard touchdown pass. The Chargers added another touchdown through the air in the second quarter as Erdmann found Drew Olsson to extend the lead to 13-0. The Chargers continued to pull away in the second quarter, including an 8-yard touchdown run by Brayden Schroeder. Hamilton converted all three extra-point attempts to take a commanding 27-0 advantage into halftime. Hamilton added another rushing touchdown in the third quarter to extend its lead to 34-0 before scoring once more in the fourth quarter to make it 41-0. Marquette avoided the shutout with a touchdown late in the game. Hamilton will host Arrowhead in the state quarterfinals on Friday, Nov. 6.
