DAR hears Civil War instruments
The June program for the Waw-wil-a-way chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution was given by John M. Huffman of Waverly. Huffman is director of the 73rd Ohio Volunteer Infantry Regiment Band. He shared instruments from the Civil War. The chapter installed two new members. It will be sponsoring Wreaths Across America before Christmas. The chapter hopes to sell many more wreaths because there are more than 1,100 veterans buried in the Hillsboro Cemetery.
1803 New Market wedding re-enacted
A wedding re-enactment from 1803 played out Saturday before the Highland County Historical Society opened its new bridal exhibit at the Highland House Museum in Hillsboro. The museum exhibit features at least 41 wedding gowns dating back possibly 200 or more years ago to 1969, as well as photos, a corsage from a 1945 wedding, gift book lists, marriage certificates and more. The display will be open from 1-4 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays at the museum through July 27. Groups wanting to tour the museum at other times can call Vicki Knauff, the museum director, at 937-393-3392.
Weekend fires in Ross County under arson investigation
CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — State investigators are probing a series of fires that erupted over the weekend just south of Chillicothe, raising suspicions of arson. The Ross County Sheriff’s Office reported that deputies and firefighters responded to Massieville Road shortly after midnight on June 8, following reports of multiple fires in the area. Upon arrival, they discovered several structures ablaze.

The annual Greenfield Rotary Club Auction at the festival had one of its best turnouts in years, raising more than $20,000, including $14,100 from the sale of 10 prints by Tammy Wells, a local artist who has created the print for 22 years. Rotarian Barb Barton said that since the Rotary Club is selling the Ralph W. Phillips Community Recreation & Civic Center, more money from the auction will be available to help the community rather than being spent on maintenance of the civic center. Ross County – Police are investigating the use of counterfeit money at garage sales over the weekend. According to the Chillicothe police department there were called to Oneida road when a resident claimed that during her yard sale she received a counterfeit bill. She told police that a person gave her the bill for good and it went unnoticed.
