Rams climb conference standings with three conference victories

When it comes to conference opponents, they seem to have an edge.

At least that’s how it has seemed for the Greene County softball team in the last week. 

Not only have the Rams picked up three conference wins since May 31, against conference opponents they have only allowed one run.

The conference wins seemed to continue to get better as the week went on. 

On May 31 the Rams were able to down West Marshall 3-0. 

the road victory wasn’t easy as the Rams and trojans were tied going into the sixth inning. Then, the middle of the lineup seemed to step up. 

Mecca Anderson, Payton Kokenge and Kaycee Pittman all were able to score in the sixth inning to give the Rams the ultimate lead. 

Alexa Peters, Emma Hoyle and Paige Teeples all had one hit each, all of them singles. 

Payton Konkenge had two singles in the game as well as a RBI. Teeples and Daniele Madsen both had a RBI. 

Emma Hoyle pitched a complete game. In seven innings she struck out 15 batters and gave up just one hit. She also walked four batters and hit one batter. 

Against Perry the Rams picked up a 4-1 victory. 

The Rams struck early as they scored a run in the bottom of the first. Perry tied it with a run in the top of the fourth. The Rams added two runs in the bottom of the fourth to preserve the lead. They added an insurance run in the bottom of the fifth. 

Despite the win the Rams only had three hits. Olivia Shannon, Becca Anderson and Kaycee Pittman all added a hit. 

Anderson was able to hit a two-run home run. 

Emma Hoyle also had a RBI. 

Shannon, Anderson, Pittman and Addison Gannon all had one run scored.

Hoyle pitched a complete game. She threw a no hitter, allowing one earned run. She walked two batters and hit one batter while striking out 10. 

The best conference opponent to-date came on Monday night against Nevada. 

The Rams won 14-0 in three innings. 

Not only did the Rams have two home runs in that contest they also had nine total hits. 

Mecca Anderson had the first home run. It was a two-run shot in the bottom of the first inning. It was her only hit of the game. 

Emma Hoyle ended the game in the bottom of the third when she hit a three-run home run with a towering hit to right field, which some say still hasn’t landed. 

Alexa Peters had two hits and a RBI in the win. Emma Steam had a single and a double as well as three RBI. 

Payton Kokenge had a single. Teeples and Cunningham both had a single. Temples had two RBI. Cunningham had a RBI as well. 

Hoyle pitched a perfect game. She struck out seven batters and didn’t give up a hit, run or walk. 

The only blemishes on the record for the Rams this week came at a Bondurant-Farrar tournament. 

In the first game they fell to Newman Catholic 5-1. 

Against Bondurant-Farrar the Rams were defeated 10-0. 

Overall the Rams stand at 7-4 on the season.
