The high school soccer girls and boys State tournaments ended last week and the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference All-Conference selections are now released. The league had three teams, including Greene County, play in the boys’ State tournament, as well as Perry and Nevada. Nevada also had its girls’ team qualify for State.

Greene County has five boys and three girls receiving All-Conference honors. Not all eight conference schools have soccer, so the league coaches choose a first team and honorable mention individuals. The other conference sports choosing All-Conference teams have a first and second team, plus honorable mention.

Senior Jose Velazco and juniors Gesser Gutierres and Jack Hansen were on the boys’ first team with senior Bork Ernsess and junior Gabe Ebersole were on the honorable mention list.

Junior Esther Van Horn was a girls’ first team selection and honorable mention choices were senior Katrina Heupel and junior Graci Cooklin.

Carl Behne is Greene County’s boys’ head coach and Maribel Hernandez is the head coach of the girls. The Rams were 13-5 in boys’ soccer and qualified for the Class 2A State Tournament and the girls were 1-11.
