It’s the start of Spring sports in Iowa high schools, but there was big football news earlier this week when the Iowa High School Athletic Association released District football assignments. Greene County will play in Class 2A District 8 in 2023 and ’24, along with Kuemper Catholic (Carroll), Des Moines Christian, Saydel (Des Moines), Roland-Story (Story City), and Southeast Valley (Gowrie).

Caden Duncan is Greene County’s head coach and he talked with Raccoon Valley Radio about the Rams’ offseason strength and conditioning program. “Our offseason program has been great this year! For a full team, freshmen through juniors that are returning, this may have been the best offseason that we’ve had since I’ve been here. We’ve seen a lot of kids grow physically in strength, and we have a lot of kids with speed improvements, which is fantastic! We have a strong core group of guys that have been working really, really hard the entire offseason, so that’s really got us excited here.”

The coach said the workouts will continue through the end of May, then on June 1, the Rams and other programs in the state can incorporate football activities into workouts.
