GREENACRES — A 79-year-old Lake Worth Beach man was killed late Thursday night in a two-car collision in Greenacres, police said Friday.

The man, who was driving a 2018 Nissan Rogue, was traveling south on Windpoint Way around 10 p.m. and attempting to turn left onto eastbound Hypoluxo Road when his car was struck on the driver's side by a 2019 Mazda CX5 driven by a 38-year-old Lake Worth Beach woman traveling west on Hypoluxo Road, according to the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office.

After the collision, the Nissan struck the median and overturned onto its passenger side. It came to rest upright in the eastbound lanes of Hypoluxo Road, and the driver was taken to Delray Medical Center for treatment. Shortly after 11 p.m., he was pronounced dead at the hospital from his injuries.

The woman driving the Mazda was taken to Bethesda West Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries, deputies said.

The names of the drivers are protected by a 2018 state law modeled after California's Marsy's Law. The amendment allows crime victims or their relatives to request that a victim's name be shielded from public reports.
