It’s time to sit down with Emery County Commissioner Jordan Leonard to find out about some upcoming events in Green River and highlight another county department on a job well done. Castle Country Radio will now have an opportunity every other week to speak with the commissioner to keep citizens informed on the latest news and events.

There are some very fun, family friendly events coming to Green River in the next few weeks and Commissioner Leonard shares the dates, “The UTV Watermelon Crawl will be March 23 through the 25. Those of you that might be interested, you can go to https://www.greenriverwatermeloncrawl.com/ Then the Rock & Mineral Festival will be held on March 31 through April 2 and if you want to learn more about that one, that will be http://greenriverrocks.com/.” Individuals can learn more event details on both of these gatherings by visiting the event websites.

Each time Castle Country Radio visits with Commissioner Leonard he likes to take a few minutes to recognize or spotlight a county department. This week focuses on the county library branches and how hard they work to serve the citizens of Emery County. “We just appreciate what they do with their daily events for the youth and adult. They’re continuing to improve the buildings and making it a great place for the community to go and feel comfortable. Then the community development part, nice to have a hub in each community to go if you need to use internet or research or read a book or do some of those things or have a little activity,” stated Commissioner Leonard. When you visit these facilities be sure to thank them for a job well done.

At the most recent commissioner meeting they discussed a signage grant program for businesses to apply for.  “So this will allow our Emery County Businesses to apply for signage, maybe they want to paint their business, improve their siding, just new windows, anything that we can do to try to support our local businesses with this grant. It’s a partnership between the Travel Bureau, the county and the Business Chamber,” explained Commissioner Leonard. This is a matching grant so businesses will have to put in a portion of funds for it but it will help with any cosmetic changes for the business.

Another topic that was up for discussion at the last meeting was Green River moving over to natural gas. “Country facilities in Green River, so when Dominion Energy is ready to start hooking up natural gas in Green River, we approved all county buildings to be connected to natural gas – so we’re really excited about that project,” said Commissioner Leonard. The completion date for the project is schedule for Fall or Winter 2023.

The Emery County Commissioners meet twice a month at 3:00 pm at the Emery County Courthouse at 75 East Main Street in Castle Dale. A schedule of meetings is listed on the Emery County website at http://www.emerycounty.com/
