The Green River Lady Pirates have been competing in the 1A State Basketball Championships at the Sevier Valley Center on the campus of Snow College in Richfield since Wednesday, and after dropping their second round game to Wendover found themselves with a do or die contest against Bryce Valley on Thursday afternoon. Green River hang in there with No. 10 Bryce Valley but the Mustangs proved to be too much and ended the Lady Pirates season 53-41.

Green River posted an 8-16 regular season mark including a 4-4 Region 23 record. In the opening round of the playoffs they defeated Water Canyon, 54-26 last Saturday. That win advanced them to the second round in Richfield on Wednesday, where they faced the No. 2 Wendover Wildcats, taking a 57-33 loss, dropping them into the consolation round against Bryce Valley.

Green River tried to keep pace with Bryce Valley not letting them build too much of a lead and kept pace with them. Heading in to the locker room at halftime, the Mustangs held a 30-17 lead.

The third quarter was more of the same with Bryce Valley out scoring Green River by just two points but still extending their lead to 40-25.

In the final quarter, the Lady Pirates tried to make their move putting up 16 and holding Bryce Valley to 13, however the gap was too much for Green River to overcome falling in the contest 53-41, and ending their season.

Jenilee Keener put up 16 points in the contest, while senior Abigail Erwin finished her time with the Lady Pirates with 15 points and Jordynne Gingerich and Rosa Barragan each had five.

Next season the Lady Pirates will lose three players to graduation. Erwin, Kassidy Lehnhoff and Emily Roundy are all members of the class of 2023.
