GREEN, Ohio (WJW) – Just in time for camping season, Summit Metro Parks has announced the Nimisila Campground has reopened.

The campground closed last year for electrical upgrades to be made during the off-season.

According to a press release, the most significant upgrade converted a dozen non-electric sites to electric.

The campground now offers more electric sites than non-electric sites, an upgrade park officials believe will increase rentals by 25-30%.

“Electric sites at the campground are more popular with visitors. During the 2023 peak season, electric sites were rented 80% of the time vs. non-electric sites at 44% of the time,” read the release.

The park also added electricity to four restroom facilities and a picnic shelter by the lake.

Sounds great except for their rule that only campers can use the boat ramp and parking lot. They claim it’s for the overflow parking. Personally I’ve never seen more than a few cars there and I’ve been using that ramp for 50 years! The “rangers” ran me and my grandkids off. That ramp is the only one suited for small fiberglass sailboats, but they refuse to bend on the policy. I even suggested a paid parking pass, they responded NO! Here I thought my tax dollars would represent everyone, silly me.
