GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – The Bay Beach Wildlife Sanctuary is open to the public after multiple small fires Tuesday afternoon.
The Green Bay Metro Fire Department was dispatched to sanctuary around 3:15 p.m. after receiving reports of a vegetation fire on a trail east of the nature center.
Upon arrival, crews found multiple fires in an area full of cottonwood and dry brush.
After about an hour, firefighters were able to extinguish all of the fires.
GBMFD says no animals were injured in the event. The only damage noted was a small bit of charring to a deer stand structure’s steps.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
