Safety is potentially the most interesting position to watch for the Green Bay Packers this summer.

Green Bay has seemingly moved on from starter Adrian Amos as he remains a free agent, but the team has made several moves at the position.

The Packers brought back free agents Rudy Ford and Dallin Leavitt and signed Tarvarius Moore and Jonathan Owens and drafted Anthony Johnson Jr.

Darnell Savage is back on the fifth-year option, but it's the final season of his contract. The Packers have six safeties with expiring deals next spring: Savage, Ford, Leavitt, Moore, Owens, and Innis Gaines.

Along with the names mentioned above, the Packers also have second-year Tariq Carpenter on the roster, who became a key special teams player late last season.

There are tough decisions ahead entering the summer.

Despite the Packers' depth at safety and competition for roster spots, there is no clear starter next to Darnell Savage. Rudy Ford could be the frontrunner after starting six games last season, but he isn't guaranteed to win the job.

In an article for Bucs Wire, Zach Kruse of Packers Wire named Rudy Ford as a veteran who could lose his job to a rookie this season. He believes Anthony Johnson Jr. could win the job ahead of Ford.

Ford impressed last season, making three interceptions, three pass defenses, and forcing a fumble. But he isn't a guaranteed starter, and there's every chance Johnson could win the job if he plays well over the summer.

Johnson has played at cornerback and safety, so he brings versatility to the Packers' defense. Pro Football Focus named Johnson one of the biggest steals of the draft.

"We believe the Packers got a good one," wrote Trevor Sikkema of PFF.

Green Bay has depth at safety, but the starting job is wide open. Johnson could earn the spot ahead of Ford this summer.
