(WTAQ-WLUK) — Two Northeast Wisconsin marinas are getting federal grants for improvements.
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service announced High Cliff State Park Marina in Sherwood and South Bay Marina in Green Bay will receive Boating Infrastructure Grants (BIG).
High Cliff State Park Marina received a Tier 1 grant of $200,000 for culvert replacement. The existing culvert that delivers runoff from Butterfly Pond into the boat basin at the marina has degraded over time, leading to sedimentation and a decrease in draft depth and water clarity.
The South Bay Marina was awarded a Tier 2 grant of $1.2 million for three improvement projects. Those are:
- Add 52 transient boat slips, arranged to accept a wide variety of vessels 26’ and longer
- Breakwater improvements to protect the marina
- Add a toilet/shower building dedicated to transient boaters
Wisconsin was one of only 8 states that received both a Tier 1 and Tier 2 Boating Infrastructure Grant in 2023.
