GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – A donation is making a difference for local wildlife.
Oneida Nation and the city of Green Bay presented a $150,000 donation to the Bay Beach Wildlife Sanctuary Tuesday.
The money will go toward caring for the animals that not only call the sanctuary home but also injured or abandoned animals that need rehabilitation.
Oneida Nation Tribal Chairman, Tehassi Hill says they have a long-standing relationship with the Bay Beach Wildlife Sanctuary and share core values and encouraging respect for mother nature.
Bay Beach Wildlife Sanctuary superintendent, Steve Lakatos says as a free park, they rely on generous donations like this.
“We’re just really honored by the longstanding friendship and partnership and our missions really closely align and we both really know the importance of educating the youth and protecting the environment so this donation is really going to go a long way.”
The funding comes from the Oneida Nation and Green Bay’s cooperative governance agreement signed in March 2021.
