Lydia, for fairfield sun times

Lydia

GREAT FALLS — Lydia Comstock, a student at North Middle School, was recently selected as the winner of the Take Down Tobacco Day 2023 Sticker Competition.

The statewide competition was held by Montana reACT, an organization empowering youth engagement in the fight to create a tobacco-free generation of young Montanans. Students across Montana submitted designs for stickers to promote awareness of the dangers of tobacco use.

Lydia’s sticker design won first place and is available for order on the reACT online store at http://mtupp.allegrahelena.com/product/3-inch-ReACT-Circle-Stickers. There is no charge. CCHD encourages all in Cascade County to consider supporting Lydia and reACT’s vital mission to end tobacco use.

On her inspiration for the winning design, Lydia said: “I remember when I was in elementary school that people would come to our gym class. They’d have examples of healthy lungs and unhealthy lungs. The unhealthy lungs looked gross, and so I took from that, the sludge and slime from the unhealthy lungs. I wanted the other side of the lungs to be light and happy.”

Lydia has relatives whose health was negatively impacted by heavy tobacco use, and she hopes to inspire a healthier young generation. She participates in the Science Bowl, Toast Masters, Student Government, and aspires to attend law school in the future.
