After hearing that numerous dogs had been rescued from a hoarder in Douglas County, a St. Clair family felt the call to adopt one of the Shiba Inus. In mid-October, the Humane Society of Missouri’s (HSMO) Animal Cruelty Task Force (ACT) — one of the nation’s largest animal-rescue and disaster-response teams — rescued 43 Shiba Inus from a property owned by a former breeder in Douglas County. The dogs rescued were malnourished, sick, or injured, according to the HSMO.
