Man found floating in Mississippi River went missing 2 months prior
GARYVILLE - Deputies in St. John Parish recovered a man's body from the Mississippi River on April 24 and have determined that the man went missing two months prior. According to the St. John Parish Sheriff's Office, Keith Cammon Jr's car was found unoccupied at the Veteran's Memorial Bridge in Gramercy Feb. 16.
Local baseball, softball coaches relieved on their duties
Two local schools are looking for coaches — one making a move in baseball and the other making a move on the softball diamond. Central Lafourche announced just after the 2024 season that they had parted ways with baseball coach Lanc Crochet, ending his 2-year run with the team.
Here's where Terrebonne and Lafourche school districts are in the rebuilding process
Ellender Memorial High School is slated for demolition this summer. A few schools in Terrebonne and Lafourche remain untouched, awaiting decisions from FEMA. The two school districts collectively took out more than $350 million in loans to cover the initial costs. This money is frontloaded for repairs and later reimbursed at 90% by the Federal Emergency Management Agency. Lafourche is nearly finished with its repairs, with two holdouts awaiting approval from FEMA. Meanwhile, Terrebonne Parish has had many of its schools approved and is now in the design phase to begin work, with one exception.

Houma apartment set ablaze after flower pot used as ash tray catches fire
HOUMA — The outside of a Houma apartment building was set ablaze Sunday night when a flower pot caught fire. Firefighters from the Bayou Cane Fire Protection District responded to the fire at the Stones Throw Drive complex around 9:30 p.m. According to security footage, the fire was caused when the flower pot, which was being used as an ash tray, caught fire.
La-Terre Master Gardener Plant Sale to be held Saturday
The annual La-Terre Master Gardener Plant Sale will be held on Saturday, May 4 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Raceland AgCenter, 115 Texas Street, Raceland. Vegetables and plants propagated by the members will be available for sale in the large air-conditioned facility. Plenty of free parking!
