GRANTSVILLE — On Friday, April 21, the Garrett County Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the opening of Casselman View Cottage in Grantsville.
Business Development Specialist and Chair of the Garrett County Diplomats, Connor Norman, led the ceremony. Local dignitaries in attendance include County Commissioners Paul Edwards and Larry Tichnell; Garrett County Chamber of Commerce President Will Wrobleski; and Chamber Board of Directors members Patty Manown Mash and Julie Yoder.
Attendees congratulated Casselman View Cottage owners Jan Russell and Mike Dreisbach and thanked them for their continued contributions to the local business community.
“Congratulations to Jan and Mike on their newest venture,” said Wrobleski. “This is a great addition to the Little Crossing and a wonderful place to stay. We appreciate Jan and Mike’s continued contributions to our business community and the numerous services they provide for visitors and residents alike to enjoy.”
Garrett County Diplomats Patty Manown Mash, Connor Norman, and Kristin Skeweris assisted in the official ribbon cutting.
Dreisbach shared some history of the property, explaining, “This was once an outbuilding on the Stanton farmstead, built about 150 years ago on the original alignment of the National Road.” While it started as a chicken coop, it most recently housed offices.
Following a complete renovation, Casselman View Cottage is now a two-story, pet-friendly vacation rental with expansive views only steps from the Casselman River. The Cottage features 1 bedroom, 1.5 bathrooms, a full kitchen, a home office, a wrap-around covered deck, an outdoor firepit, 2 Smart TVs, free WiFi, a complimentary overnight charging station for electric vehicles, and more. Guests can walk less than a quarter mile to Casselman River Bridge State Park, Spruce Forest Artisan Village, Stanton’s Mill, and other historic sites.
“While this is a perfect spot for visitors to explore since there’s so much to do within walking distance,” said Russell, “I hope locals will be able to take advantage of it, too, as extra space for visiting family or a staycation for themselves.”
Casselman View Cottage is an invisible service hotel and the newest venture from Russell & Dreisbach’s hospitality company, Fronterra Resources, which includes the adjacent businesses The Cornucopia Café, Little Crossings Pantry, and Grant’s Mercantile as well as Savage River Lodge near Frostburg.
