JOSEPHINE COUNTY, Ore. -- An 87-year-old man from Grants Pass is dead after a car crash yesterday on Highway 199 near milepost 5.5, according to a news release from Oregon State Police.

According to the release, a black Ford Fusion -- driven by 26-year-old Courtney L. Parsons from Rogue River -- was driving southbound in the fast lane when 87-year-old Ervin Besler turned left from Robinson Road in his white GMC Sierra without properly clearing traffic. Parsons reportedly hit the driver side of Besler's car in a T-bone crash.

Besler was dead at the scene, the release said. Parsons and two passengers -- 25-year-old John D. McCollum from Myrtle Point and 19-year-old Matthew J. Balise from West Springfield in Massachusetts -- were transported to the hospital.

"The highway was impacted for approximately 3.5 hours while the on-scene investigation was conducted," the release said.
