Nearly ten fire departments responded to a large-scale fire near Rippey Tuesday evening.

Incident Commander and Grand Junction Fire Chief Bret Kersey tells Raccoon Valley Radio, Grand Junction, Jefferson, Rippey, Bagley, Yale, Jamaica, Bouton, and Perry fire departments, along with the Greene County Sheriff’s Office, Grand Junction Rescue and Greene County Ambulance responded at 5:22pm Tuesday to 2302 U Avenue. Kersey says when they arrived on scene, there were three outbuildings that were fully engulfed in flames, however the primary residence was not damaged.

Kersey notes that the three outbuildings were completely destroyed and no one was in the buildings at the time of the fire. He adds, no one was hurt in the incident and the cause remains under investigation, although Kersey says the fire is accidental in nature.

Kersey thanks all of the fire departments and other first responders that came to help and adds the new water tanker truck with the Jefferson Fire Department was much appreciated to have at all of the rural fires, especially this one in particular with its 7,000 gallon capacity. He also thanked Grow Greene County Gaming Corporation for giving a grant toward the purchase of the tanker. According to the Greene County Assessor, the property is owned by John Grow.
