Ben Sampson makes history at CMU

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX)–CMU Swimmer made history for the Mavericks after becoming the first men’s swimmer to win a national title. He competed in early March at the 2023 NCAA National Championships in Indianapolis Indiana, finishing first in the 200 Individual Medley and the 200 Backstroke.

Sampson was also named first team All-American–one of 21 Maverick swimmers and divers to earn the honor–and was named “Swimmer of the Year” by the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association (CSCAA); an honor he says meant more to him than actually winning a national title.

He plans to continue swimming at CMU as he pursues his degree in Business Administration, and hopes to compete in the Olympic Trials in 2024.
