Three dead overnight in Grand Island murder suicide

GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) - Three people are dead following a deadly shooting early Sunday morning in northwest Grand Island.

Grand Island Police Captain Jim Duering told Local4 that an incident happened in the 4100 block of Arizona Avenue around 2:30 a.m.

According to Hall County Attorney Marty Klein, the incident involved a 26-year-old husband, identified as Rex Goodell, and 23-year-old wife, identified as Emily Goodell, from Lincoln, it’s unknown why Emily was in Grand Island.

Rex Goodell tried contact his wife at the residence on Arizona Avenue, Klein said there was a confrontation and Emily Goodell was shot and killed.

A 23-year-old male resident of the house, identified as Hayes Morgheim, also was shot and killed by the 26-year-old. The house belonged to the parents of the 23-year-old, Klein said they were not harmed.

Before the shooter could get away police got to the scene, and the 26-year-old took his life.

Capt. Duering said while no officers fired their weapons, due to the close proximity of their officers at the time of the incident, they have turned the case over to SCALES for an impartial investigation.

SCALES, the South Central Area Law Enforcement Services with Hastings Police, is the lead agency.
