(5:00 p.m.) The Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) has enacted a no travel advisory on multiple highways in northwest Minnesota due to blizzard conditions. MnDOT snowplows continue to operate, but motorists are advised not to travel in these areas until conditions improve.

No travel advised:

  • Hwy 2 – Erskine to North Dakota border
  • Hwy 9 – Crookston to Borup
  • Hwy 75 – Warren to Perley

The North Dakota DOT has issued a no travel advisory for Grand Forks, Griggs, Nelson, Pembina, Steele, Traill and Walsh Counties…because of icy roads, blowing snow and reduced visibility…at times, zero visibility.
A Travel ALERT has been issued for several counties, including Benson, Cavalier, Eddy, Foster, McIntosh, Pierce, Ramsey, Rolette, and Towner…
because of blowing snow, slippery roads and scattered snow drifts
That means you can still travel but be advised of rapidly changing winter driving conditions.

The National Weather Service has issued a WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 9:00 TONIGHT FOR portions of northeast and southeast North Dakota… and northwest Minnesota.
Snow and blowing and drifting snow. Additional snow accumulations of up to one inch. Winds gusting as high as 40 mph.
Plan on slippery road conditions. Widespread blowing snow will significantly reduce visibility with isolated blizzard conditions where falling snow is occurring. The hazardous conditions will impact the evening commute. The cold
wind chills as low as 25 below zero could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes.
Northern valley out of town travel will be the area with the most difficult travel conditions … with isolated whiteouts and blizzard conditions possible where light snow occurs.
