Power restored, road closed after Kansas oil spill. BARBER COUNTY—Early Tuesday, July 2nd, crews restored power to customers impacted by the outage due to an oil spill, according to Southern Pioneer Electric. According to the Barber County Sheriff, Kansas Highway 2 west of Kiowa from Northstar to Highway 281 was shut down due to the oil well blowing across the highway. The power was also out in the community of Hardtner and outside Kiowa. Oil from the well near Pioneer infrastructure coated lines and caused them to trip and open. (Hays Post)
Boil water advisory rescinded for Nicodemus Township, Graham County
TOPEKA – The Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) has rescinded a boil water advisory for the Nicodemus Township - public water supply system located in Graham County. The advisory was issued because of line break causing loss of pressure. Failure to maintain adequate pressure may put the system at risk for bacterial contamination.
Fish harvest regulation changes at northwest Kansas lakes
As of June 20, the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks implemented the following special fish harvest regulations. At Sherman County-Smoky Gardens Lake, an 18-inch minimum length limit and two fish/day creel limit on largemouth bass and 15-inch minimum length limit and five fish/day creel on channel catfish are now in effect.
