In reversal, car wash gets special use approval for Chesterfield Twp. Big Boy site
Mister Car Wash is a step closer to opening a new location in Chesterfield Township. The Zoning Board of Appeals on May 22 approved a special land use request from the business, which is looking to redevelop the Big Boy site on 23 Mile Road, east of Interstate 94. The approval reverses a decision made by the Planning Commission last month to deny the request. Before the project can move forward, final site plan approval must be granted by the Planning Commission.
2 arrested in Macomb County with stolen IDs, credit cards, unregistered handgun
WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Two men are facing 10 felony charges and several misdemeanors after allegedly getting caught with stolen property in Macomb County. According to authorities, deputies were dispatched to the Enclave Apartments in Washington Township on reports of a suspicious vehicle at about 9 a.m., May 14. The sheriff’s department said they made contact with Derek Russell, 26, and Dakwan Young, 24, who were reportedly in a car that smelled like marijuana.
Father charged after boy, 8, shoots himself with unsecured gun in Macomb County
WARREN, MI – The father of an eight-year-old boy who shot himself with his father’s gun has been charged in Macomb County. Theo Nichols, 56, is accused of improperly storing his handgun, which led to his young son shooting himself at the Cove on 10 Apartment Complex near Hoover Road and 10 Mile Road in Warren on April 19.
Hook & Hunting: Record-breaking white perch caught on Lake St. Clair
A downstate man now holds the state record the largest white perch caught in Michigan. Scott Smith from St. Clair County and a friend were fishing back on April 25 on Lake St. Clair when he reeled in his 2 pound, 5.92 ounces perch measuring 16.25 inches. It beats the old record set in Muskegon County in 2016 by three inches. Smith is no stranger to big fish. His first world-record fish was a rainbow trout caught in 1996.

Newly released data from Realtor.com for February shows that potential buyers and sellers in St. Clair County saw houses sell for higher than the previous month's median sales price of $202,250. The median home sold for $219,000, an analysis of data from Realtor.com shows. That means February, the most recent month for which figures are available, was up 8.3% from January. ...
Garfield Elementary families see student concert for first time in 15 years
It's been at least 15 years since the last time parents were able to attend a performance at Garfield Elementary School in Port Huron. That changed Wednesday evening. The gym of Garfield Elementary School was filled with families eager to hear their children perform a variety of songs. At least 200 students between kindergarten and third grade were performing. Principal Julie Marie Alley said the school has always held an in-school Christmas sing-along and in-classroom plays, but those are not events families typically attend.
37th annual River Run in Marysville to benefit VNA, Blue Water Hospice
Participants of the Visiting Nurse Association and Blue Water Hospice’s 37th annual River Run can enjoy a beautiful run or walk along the St. Clair River on June 1. The event will take place at Marysville City Park, located at 810 E. Huron Blvd. It has four options to participate: a 10K race, a 5K race, a 3-mile walk and a 1-mile fun run, and funds raised will benefit charity care at the agency.
