GEDC hires Sankey as new economic development director

The Gonzales Economic Development Corporation is touting the hiring of its newest economic development director, who has 20 years of experience in the non-profit sector with an extensive background.

The City of Gonzales and the Gonzales Economic Development Board announced Tuesday, June 6, that Susan Sankey has accepted the position as Economic Development Director for Gonzales.

The position plans, organizes, and directs economic development for the city through the Gonzales Economic Development Corporation, strengthening local tax base, and improving the economic environment of the community.

Previously, Sankey worked with the Kansas Agriculture and Rural Leadership Program and at the Kansas State Fair. She is a 20-year veteran of the non-profit sector with experience in rural community engagement, healthcare philanthropy and strategic growth, and a corporate background with Cargill and Seaboard Foods in quality assurance, research and development, food safety, and compliance. 

Sankey is a graduate of Texas A&M University with a degree in agricultural education and has a background in fundraising, organization management, and leadership.

The Gonzales Economic Development Corporation is a Texas non-profit economic development corporation, acting in accordance with the Development Corporation Act, chapters 501 to 505 of the Texas Local Government Code, as amended.

The GEDC Board is comprised of seven directors, each of whom are appointed by the Gonzales City Council
