What this group wouldn’t do to be 10-3 this year and at least make it to the semifinals of the Division III playoffs.Expectations and excitement are high at the school, because head coach Adam Reinking feels he’s got a team this year that can achieve their goals.“Our goal is to improve on last year’s performance,” Reinking said. “We’ve been knocked out in the second round of the playoffs three straight years. Whether that’s winning a league championship or making it the semifinals or playing for a section championship, we’ll take it. The ultimate goal is to be playing a game the day after Thanksgiving, but at the least we want to be better than last year. We just want to continue to grow the program.”Returning to the team this year will be quarterback Mason Susnara, a junior who threw for 1,700 yards and 19 touchdowns last year as a sophomore. While Susnara had Joel Bradley to throw to last season, he’s got a lot more players to try to get the ball to this year, as Roseville had plenty of receivers, including Jaden Broussard (6-3), Jayden Holt (6-2), JJ Yong (6-4), and Kenny McClure (5-11) and tight end Kaiden Pedone (6-3).Not only that, but Roseville has added depth this season brought up from a JV team that went 9-1 a season ago. They bring up not only good athletic players, but also big, intelligent linemen as well. Nick Bernasconi (6-3, 275) and Dillon Johnson (6-0, 225) return on the offensive line that’s also got first-year juniors Trevor Kirby, Caleb Barba, Lucas Sean and Danny Rubio.“We’ve got good receivers this year; Jayden Broussard will be really good,” Susnara said. “We’ve got a really good line too that’s looking great. We’ve got good chemistry all around.”Bernasconi likes the size and depth of the offensive line.“The line is looking really good,” Bernasconi said. “We’re a lot bigger than we were last year. We have a lot of younger guys coming up and playing. Our offense has a lot of different guys who can do a lot of different things. We have a lot of talent on offense.”Johnson said the team has improved a lot over the summer.“Everything is going good right now, but we definitely have more to work on,” Johnson said. “I do think that our line is one of our strong suits. Our receivers are really strong too with JJ Yong, Jayden Broussard and Kenny McClure. We’ve got a lot of guys who can catch balls.”The defense will be led by the line, like the offense, as Bernasconi, Johnson, and John Donahue return, as do outside linebacker Kaiden Pedone and Colton Wolfe and Andrew Morales help lead the way.“I think our defense will be great,” Pedone said. “We’re looking really good in practice and playing with lots of energy. I think our linebackers and our defensive ends are the strength of the defense. We’ve been putting in the work.”Reinking definitely likes what he’s seen early in practice.“I’ve had a lot of good teams at Roseville, and this group has done everything I’ve asked,” Reinking said. “They’ve had a great attitude, great work ethic, great body language and they’ve been very unselfish and that’s been refreshing.“We’ve got a lot of skill guys that I’ve got to figure out how to get the ball to them. They’re all in it together too. They all do a good job of supporting each other and coaching each other. I haven’t seen an ounce of selfishness.“Our seniors are good leaders and our juniors have only lost one game together their entire high school careers.”So what will it take for the Tigers to reach their goal of improving on last year’s success?“Our goal is to make it deep into the playoffs,” Susnara said. “I think we’ve got a pretty good team with good competition all around. I think the new league will be fun. Last year, we had a tough time with our league, but this time it will be better.”Added Johnson, “I think day in and day out, we’ve got to put in the utmost effort and make sure we’re staying true to our form and to our mindset that we can get to the section championship by the end of the year.”Pedone said, “To reach our goals we have to stay focused in practice and give 110 percent. Our defense has to provide good looks for our offense to get better, and we have to never give up.”</div></body>
