    Glenwood Wins Team Title and Two Records Fall at Boy’s Hawkeye Ten Conference Track Meet

    (Shenandoah) Glenwood won the team title on Thursday, and two new records were inked at the Hawkeye Ten Conference Track Meet at Mustang Field and Ray Graves Track. The Rams won the meet, topping the 11-team field with 148.0 points; Shenandoah finished second with 102, Lewis Central third with 95, Harlan fourth with 92, and Atlantic fifth with 90 points.

    The Shenandoah boys started the meet, winning the Sprint Medley Relay at 1:36.79. Lewis Central’s Ethan Eichhorn’s near-record-setting performance came next in the 3200. The senior entered the race with the third-fastest time in Class 3A. The senior broke away from the pack of three and raced to the finish line in 9:26.78, missing the conference record of 9:25.80.

    Eicchorn also won the 1600 in 4.25.39 and was one of three runners finishing in under two minutes in the 800 meters. The senior finished second in 1:58.12, behind Andrew Smith of Glenwood, clocking a 1:57.84. Parker Heisterkamp of St. Albert was third in 1:59.68. The Titans tacked ten more points on the board with a top finish in the 4×800 meter Relay at 8:18.42.

    The Atlantic quad of Alex Sonntag, Bennett Whetstone, Preston Williams, and Colin Rudy finished third in the 4×800 at 8:30.93. Sonntag had this say about the team’s effort.

    Atlantic’s Shuttle Hurdle Relay followed the 4×800 with a victory. The quad of Colton Rasmussen, Grant Petty, Shelton Maulia, and Dante Hedrington won the race in 1:04.46. After the race, Colton Rasmussen had this to say about the team’s performance.

    Rasmussen also edged Cole Scamman of Shenandoah for the win in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.83. Scamman ran 15.93.

    Cade Sears of Harlan set a new record in the 100 meters in 10.69, erasing Doug Stewart of Lewis Central’s record of 10.7 set in 1979.

    Sears just missed the 200-meter record. The senior ran 21.93, an eyelash from the 1979 record of 21.90. The Harlan quad of Sorensen, Sorforden, Eggress, and Sears won the 4×200 meter relay in 1:29.26. The same group won the 4×100 meter relay, setting a new record of 42.82. Matthew Sorfonden had this to say about the record-setting performance.

    Brody Cullin and Alex Razee finished one-two for Shenandoah in 400 meters in 50.10 and 50.11, respectively. Cullin and Razee also ran on the winning 4×400-meter relay team with Hunter Dukes and Cole Graham in 3:27.88.

    And Jake Fink of Denison-Schleswig won the 400 Hurdles in 55.91.

    Titus Steng of Shenandoah won the 101-meter wheelchair race in 20.76. Karson Johnson finished second in 25.90. The due also finished one-two in the 201-meter race in 40.70 and 59.55, respectively.

    In the field events, Benjamin Gerken of Kuemper won the High Jump at 6-03.00, and Brehden Eggerss of Harlan jumped 21-00.00 to win the Long Jump. In the throws, Tom Mikkelsen of Creston three 52-07.00 to win the Shot Put, and Evan Adams of Kuemper heaved the discus 154-09.00 for the win.

    Other performances for Atlantic included Ty Houser, who was sixth in the 100 meters. Grant Petty finished eighth in the 110-meter hurdles; Devon Fields was fifth in the 400; Sonntag eighth in the 800; the Trojans finished third in the Sprint Medley Relay, Fourth in the 4×100 meter relay, fifth in the 4×200, and fifth in the 4×400. In the field events, Rasmussen was second in the High Jump and third in the Long Jump. Xavier Darrow finished third in the Shot Put, and Gavin McLaren finished sixth. Darrow and Cohen Bruce finished fourth and fifth place, respectively, in the discus. Atlantic Head Coach Abby Becker had this to say after the meet.
