The USC Trojans did not make the 2023 NCAA Baseball Tournament. The Men of Troy were expected to reach the field of 64 teams for the first time since 2015. It would have been a towering achievement for a program which had languished the past several seasons. First-year head coach Andy Stankiewicz immediately whipped everyone into shape and got this program back on track. USC’s pitching was noticeably strong this season, the backbone of the program’s revival. Yet, that improvement was not rewarded with an NCAA bid everyone thought the program had earned.

You know by now that the USC baseball team did not get into the NCAA Tournament. The story rates as a considerable surprise, given that bracket projections 48 hours before the selection show had USC well inside the cut line, not even one of the last four teams in the field. The Trojans’ place seemed relatively secure — not a lock, but very close. Arizona was viewed to be much more on the bubble than USC, but the Wildcats made the field while USC stayed home.

At CIF Finals, she once again broke a school record, vaulting an impressive 9’9,” placing her 4th in CIF’s Division 4. Her record and Prep League championship have garnered her attention and praise from the Westridge community and beyond.

The USC Trojans are leaving the Pac-12 behind in a year to go to the Big Ten … in football and basketball and several other sports. However, water polo and beach volleyball won’t move to the Big Ten. A subset of USC athletes will need to have continuous competition with the Trojans’ longstanding West Coast neighbors in order for those programs to remain vibrant and robust.

It’s hard to ignore USC fans these days, as most of them seem far too happy about joining the B1G. They gleefully lord it over the rest of the Pac-12 as they seem to take some perverse joy out of the fact that they may have brought upon the demise of their current conference rivals. Which is rather pathetic when you think about it, because it’s not that USC has been all too dominant on the field for the last decade, but they are cheering the defeat of their rivals because they stabbed the conference in the back and are going to the B1G instead.
