Jacob Grinberg and Max Yuan won in straight sets as top-seeded Glen Rock celebrated a 4-1 win over second-seeded Pompton Lakes in the final round of the North Jersey, Section 1, Group 1 tournament in Glen Rock.
Glen Rock will now move on to the group semifinals and finals on Wednesday at Mercer County Park.
Glen Rock defeated Pompton Lakes last year in the sectional final.
Dev Parikh and Ben Horne rallied from a first-set loss to earn a team point in No. 2 doubles with a 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 victory for Glen Rock (16-4). Dennis Panchekha and Craig Hillyer got the win in No. 1 doubles with a 7-6 (7-5), 6-7 (3-7), 1-0 (12-10) win.
For Pompton Lakes (19-3), Arin Mohanty won in straight sets, 6-3, 7-5.
Old Tappan 3, Pascack Hills 2 (Group 2 final)
Kiran Gurunathan and Joseph Hwang took their matches in straight sets in the No. 1 and No. 2 singles as third-seeded Old Tappan won its first sectional title with a 3-2 win over top-seeded Pascack Hills in the North Jersey, Section 1, Group 2 tournament in Montvale.
Old Tappan advances to the group semifinals and finals on Wednesday at Mercer County Park.
The No. 1 doubles of John Oh and Owen Young won their match, 6-4, 6-1 for Old Tappan (16-7).
Sam Fruitbine won the No. 3 singles match with a 7-6, 6-0 victory for Pascack Hills (16-5) while the No. 2 doubles team of Zach Friend and David Leipsner won their match, 6-1, 5-7, 6-2.
No. 19 Tenafly 4, Northern Highlands 1 (Group 3 final)
Top-seeded Tenafly, No. 19 in the NJ.com Top 20, won its fourth sectional title in five years with a 4-1 win over second-seeded Northern Highlands in the final of the North Jersey, Section 1, Group 3 tournament in Tenafly.
The 2019-2020 season was the lone year that Tenafly didn’t lift a trophy because of the shutdown during Covid.
Tenafly now moves on the group semifinals and finals on Wednesday at Mercer County Park.
Joe Kuwama won his No. 2 singles match 6-1, 4-6, 6-2 for Tenafly (21-1). The No. 1 doubles team of Ryan Forman and Deven Shah won it straight sets, 6-3, 6-1 and the No. 2 doubles team of Vir Kohli and Ari Reitman also won in straight sets, 7-5, 6-4.
No. 18 Bergen Tech 4, Montclair 1 (Group 4 final)
Top-seeded Bergen Tech, No. 18 in the NJ.com Top 20, won its third straight sectional title with a 4-1 win over second-seeded Montclair in the final of the North Jersey, Section 1, Group 4 tournament in Hackensack.
Bergen Tech will advance to the group semifinals and finals on Wednesday at Mercer County Park.
Shuban Devarakonda won his No. 1 singles 6-2, 6-1 while Matthew Song won his No. 2 singles 6-4, 6-3 for undefeated Bergen Tech (23-0). The No. 1 doubles team of Bartlomiej Fecko and Doyun Kwon won in straight sets, 7-5, 6-4, and the No. 2 doubles team of Aatish Kandaswamy and Shan Krishnan rallied from a first-set loss for a 4-6, 7-5, 6-1 win.
