MDC Warns St. Louis Residents About Increasing Black Bear Population and the Dangers of Feeding Them
The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) has issued a warning to residents of the St. Louis region that black bears are becoming increasingly common in the area, with the state currently home to around 900 black bears, a number that is growing by 9% each year. While the majority of bears are found in the southern part of the state, sightings and potential encounters with bears are likely to increase in the St. Louis region as the population continues to grow. As the population expands, bears are showing up in areas further north.
