GLASFORD, Ill. – Residents in the small Peoria County town of Glasford say the quality of the town’s water needs to be better.
One of those residents is Richilynn Garcia. She tells 25 News that he water bill this month went up about $40 to around $200.
But Garcia says they seldom use the water, only for dishes, laundry, showering, and cooking once in a while.
“It corrodes our faucets, our water heaters, sinks, tubs, toilets. It’s not drinkable. It’s got a foul smell to it,” Garcia said.
Tests from the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency have shown no high levels of chemicals in the water.
Illinois American Water says they continue to work on improvements to the town’s water, adding they only have received eight complaints from the Glasford area since 2021.
But Garcia says something is not right with the water.
“The way that it tastes, the way that it smells, there’s no way this water is completely normal,” Garcia said.
Other residents in the town have resorted to buying gallons of bottled water to have something to drink.
