Inter-Lakes seventh graders visit Cape Code
MEREDITH — Inter-Lakes School District seventh grade students recently visited Cape Cod for their yearly trip. Forty-eight students visited Camp Wingate Kirkland in Yarmouth from April 15-18, in collaboration with Nature’s Classroom. Students traveled to Chapin Beach, Coast Guard Beach, The Atlantic White Cedar Swamp and The National Seashore.
Community Day in Franklin draws a large crowd downtown
Franklin's annual Community Day brought fun to the city's downtown on the morning of May 11. Most event-goers viewed a parade that kicked off the event at 10 a.m., while over 80 vendors set up in Odell Park with demonstrations, displays, crafts, games, food and community information. The event also included a rock wall, bungie jump, game truck, and bounce houses.
Businesses hope antique center purchase could alleviate Canal Street congestion
LACONIA — If the city’s purchase of the Laconia Antique Center moves forward, Canal Street business owners could look forward to improved access to their storefronts. City council voted to approve the purchase of the back two-thirds of the Laconia Antique Center from State Rep. Charlie St. Clair (D). Melissa Darling and Tyler Hooff would purchase the front third of the parcel and open an Italian-American restaurant named the darling. The city and the restaurateurs would split the cost of a fire wall to divide the parcel.
LRAA to host event about the common loon
TILTON — With their haunting cries and beautiful plumage, common loons are an iconic symbol of the northern wilderness. Join the Lakes Region Art Association for An Uncommon Look at the Common Loon, a slideshow exploring the natural history of loons in the north country. West Newbury, Vermont-based photographer Ian Clark spent nearly 2,000 hours kayaking with loons over the last decade and has taken over 250,000 photos of loons and their behaviors.
Blooms Brews & BBQ fundraiser Saturday
GILFORD — Gilford Rotary is teaming with Greens & Beans to present Blooms, Brews & BBQ on Saturday, May 18, 11 a.m.-3 p.m., at Greens & Beans on Intervale Road in Gilford. There will be activities for the family including live music by Karen Grenier who is returning from last year, greenhouse tours, corn hole toss, firetruck tour, farm animal petting zoo and games for the kids. Tickets for the Kids Fun Park will also be available to purchase.

Throughout his, thus far, 96 years of life, Piper has lived up to that philosophy. From childhood years spent in an orphanage to working as a printer and raising two children, hardships fueled his drive to create art.
