Man hit, killed by train in Gilbert

GILBERT, Ariz. (3TV/CBS 5) A man is dead after being hit by a train on Thursday afternoon in Gilbert. Police say just before 11 a.m., operators of a Union Pacific train called 911 to report a collision involving a person along the railroad tracks near Williams Field and Higley roads. Officers arrived and found a 23-year-old man dead at the scene.

Investigators say the man parked his car at a nearby business and went toward the railroad tracks. Train operators said they saw the man walking along the tracks at the time of the crash, police said. The incident is being investigated as a suicide.

Williams Field Road was shut down in both directions between Higley and Recker roads for several hours but reopened just before 4 p.m. The man hasn’t been identified.
