Wolverines come up short against Hawks, 20-13
VIRGINIA — Through three quarters, the Rock Ridge football team looked like they had a chance to pull off a big time upset, leading visiting Hermantown 13-7. But some miscues and bad bounces from the Wolverines and a couple heads up plays and sustained drives from the Hawks turned the tide late as Hermantown scored the final two touchdowns of the game to escape Raduenz Field with a 20-13 win. ...

Damascus football coach Josh Klotz has an offensive background. Still, the defense is the backbone of what has been a successful start to his squad’s season. In their three wins before Friday’s matchup with the Magruder Colonels, the Swarmin’ Hornets have lived up to their nickname swarming and smothering opposing defenses allowing a total of 24 points.

Chasing perfection, Oakdale battles past game Middletown for football victory
MIDDLETOWN — It’s never an easy trip to win a football game at Middletown High, and Oakdale’s been in its fair share of seesaw battles in the valley. Even if the gap between the teams is larger than usual this season, with the Bears a Class 3A state title contender and the Knights rebuilding, that was no different Friday.
Football takes down Einstein 20–19
The football team (3–2) secured their second consecutive season victory against the Einstein Titans (2–3), 20–19, on Friday night. Einstein came out of the gates fast with a long first drive, resulting in a redzone rushing touchdown to take an early 7–0 lead. The Vikes immediately responded with a touchdown after junior quarterback Connor Werkman found senior receiver John Wayman in the endzone, tying the game up at seven all. The offense didn’t slow for either side as both teams tacked on more points before the half. The Titans broke off on a long 50-yard run for their second score of the half but fumbled the snap for the extra point. The Vikings again got the ball to Wayman in the red zone, who scored his second touchdown of the contest. Whitman has a 14–13 advantage heading into halftime.
MoCoShow High School Football Game of the Week: Churchill at Urbana (Preview/Prediction)
Urbana is 3-1. They played a very good Middletown team in Delaware and lost which wasn’t unexpected. They edged out a Middletown-MD team which is looking like the weakest Middletown team in years (admittedly the Knights have played admirably so far). They had a decent 28-0 win over TJ. Then last week they went into DC and outlasted Ballou in a 37-34 shootout. Based on their other results, Ballou looks like an average team in DC. It’s definitely been an interesting schedule for the Hawks, and one that’s tough to gauge based on final scores alone. We’ve been hunting for film but it’s been hard to come by; NFHS only has tape from the Middletown-DE and TJ games and we are much more interested in seeing how Urbana looked against the other two teams.

VIRGINIA—After two weeks on the road, the Rock Ridge football team returns to Raduenz Field on Friday for the first ever homecoming contest at the new facility. Winless since their victory against Hibbing in Week 1, the Wolverines hope to turn their fortunes around when they welcome in a 3-1 Hermantown team that has plenty of talent. Donovan Brown’s lively, energetic presence translates into career year with Syracuse
D — onovan Brown is the last guy Makhi Walker wanted in front of a camera. He’s goofy, with an off-the-cuff sense of humor, and can’t help but say everything that comes to his mind. So, when a local reporter requested a postgame interview with a player at Quince Orchard (Md.) High School, Walker shook his head and laughed.
