State delegates at the Georgia GOP convention react to Trump indictment

Republicans from around Georgia, who have gathered in Columbus for the party’s state convention, are reacting to news of former President Donald Trump’s second indictment.

“I think it’s B.S. This is the same playbook as the Communist playbook. I’m from Communist China. I’ve seen this over and over again over there, and it’s just ridiculous. It’s very saddening,” says Teresa Shun from Forsyth County.

WSB Radio’s Jonathan O’Brien was in Columbus Friday as the party’s two-day convention got underway. Attendees are sharing their thoughts on the Trump federal indictment, a day ahead of the former president’s speech to the gathering Saturday afternoon.

Randy Ogino tells WSB Radio this could work in Trump’s favor. “Because it seems like when these kinds of things happen, a lot of the citizens migrate to him.”

Former state senator Josh McKoon, running for chair of Georgia’s Republican Party, calls this a partisan indictment. “I’m profoundly disappointed and sad.”

From other delegates, including Becky Scott Hill: “I think what they’ve done to Trump is wrong. Any way you cut it.”

From Rich Carithers: (The indictment is) “just going to give him more energy, more passion, more fired-up.”

Catherine Bernard, however, offers this perspective: “If Trump messed up, Trump messed up, and he should be held accountable just like anyone else.”

Everyone WSB spoke to says they’re anxious to hear Trump’s Saturday speech.
