BRIDGEVILLE, Del. – A Georgetown man is behind bars on felony DUI charges following a pursuit early Monday morning.

Just before 1:30 a.m., a trooper on patrol observed a 2004 Kia Spectra turn left onto Coverdale Road from Mill Park Drive without properly signaling. The trooper tried to stop the car on Coverdale Road at Seashore Highway, but the driver failed to stop and began speeding away northbound on Chaplains Chapel Road. The driver, identified as 48-year-old Rodney Hearn, was taken into custody. Hearn reportedly showed signs of impairment and was found to be in possession of drug paraphernalia and approximately .38 grams of crack cocaine that he allegedly tried to destroy. Computer checks also revealed that Hearn had three previous convictions for DUI.

Hearn was charged with 4th offense DUI, disregarding a police officer signal, tampering with physical evidence, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and numerous traffic violations. He was held at SCI on a $15,211 cash bond.
