GENEVA, Ala. (WTVY) - Geneva County EMS teams could see a significant funding boost.

The Geneva County Commission appropriated $400,000 of their ARPA funds to Geneva County cities EMS teams. This was approved in 2022 during a commission meeting.

At a recent board meeting, Geneva became the first city in the county to sign the contract, approving the $100K for the Geneva Rescue Team. Hartford, Slocomb and Samson still remain.

The funds can go towards equipment, expenses and medical runs and will be delivered in quarterly payments to the city EMS teams.

“Geneva will respond. That is our job and responsibility to our citizens. No matter where you are we are coming, that’s our dedication to our citizens,” said Geneva Mayor David Hayes. “This will help us for about a year, because this is expensive. Anything to do with medical is expensive.”

Mayor Hayes says the financial help will be tremendous, especially with so many people not paying medical bills due to lack of insurance or other reasons.
