Twenty-five year sentence imposed for sexual abuse of minor
OAKLAND — An Oakland man was recently sentenced to 25 years in prison after being convicted of sexual abuse of a minor. Paul Kip Burns, age 53, was found guilty of the charge by a Garrett County jury after a 2023 trial. At sentencing, State’s Attorney Christian Mash argued for imposition of a significant sentence and notified the Court of Burns’ prior conviction in the 1990s for a sex offense. Judge Terrence McGann, who presided over that trial, heard arguments from both parties and imposed the maximum sentence of 25 years on the lead charge of sexual abuse of a minor.
