West Virginia Day

March 22, 2023: Today is national West Virginia Day: recognizing the last state to be created from one of the original thirteen colonies. My house is just over 3 miles from the West Virginia border so I have a lot of love for our neighbors. Also, I love the towns of Thomas and Davis and I play a lot in Canaan Valley.

Congratulations to All Earth Eco Tours on 30 years of serving Garrett County! With conservation in mind, they offer guided hikes, kayak tours, snowshoeing, and more!

The weather today will be mostly cloudy, with a slight chance of rain showers in the morning—highs in the lower 50s and a low of 45. Southwest winds of around 5 to 10 mph. The chance of rain is 20%.

Wisp Resort is still open! Congratulations on a 120-day season with this winter weather seriously lacking. Sunday will be the last day for skiing, boarding, and tubing.

The public comment period is open for the FY2024 State of Maryland Forest Work Plan. I’ve talked with several folks in DNR and, trust me, they do take every comment into consideration!

GCPS Blueprint for Maryland’s Future Info Session on Pillar 4, Objective 4 was postponed. Dr. Miller and Dr. Manges created a video presentation and slideshow, available on the website and BoardDocs. It covers Blueprint implementation factors for GCPS.

Garrett Regional Medical Center has been recognized with a 2022 Performance Leadership Award for excellence in Outcomes.
