GALLIA COUNTY, Ohio — Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost and Gallia County Sheriff Matt Champlin have released more details about the discovery of human remains in Gallia County, which have been identified as those of Koby Roush, a Pike County resident who went missing in July 2020.
Roush, who was 24 years old at the time of his disappearance, was last seen alive in Jackson, Ohio. His vehicle was found six days later on Mount Carmel Road in Gallia County. Following an almost two-year search effort involving multiple law enforcement agencies, an outdoorsman searching for shed whitetail antlers discovered human remains in Gallia County on March 11, 2023.
The Ohio Attorney General’s Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) partnered with the Gallia County Sheriff’s Office, Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, Perry County Sheriff’s Office, Ohio Department of Natural Resources, and Ohio Department of Public Safety to investigate Roush’s disappearance. BCI’s Crime Scene Unit processed the scene where the remains were found, and the remains were submitted to the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office for identification.
“I want to thank BCI for continuing to work this investigation since Koby’s disappearance,” Sheriff Champlin said. “Investigations such as this one are not easy, as it has spanned multiple jurisdictions with no clear answer anywhere along way.”
Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost expressed hope that the identification of Roush’s remains brings closure to his loved ones. “I am grateful for the BCI agents and analysts who work diligently to bring the missing home,” Yost said.
