Downtown Gallatin's annual arts and crafts festival, Square Fest, is returning this week, rain or shine.

The 22nd annual spring event, a free, open-air street festival held in the historic downtown square, is planned from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. on April 27.

"The weather's going to be beautiful. It's going to be a great day," Downtown Gallatin Director Donna Belote said.

"Come out and plan on spending the day. The festival is big, and there will be a lot of walking, but I think every place you go as far as the legs of the festival will all be worth it."

Festival organizers expect about 234 vendors and more than 25,000 visitors this year. The event will showcase arts and crafts, handmade goods and a large variety of food.

"(This) is definitely one of the bigger ones," Belote said.

More metal and wood vendors, specialist artisans and other artists and vendors working with natural materials are expected compared to recent years, she added.

Attendees will be able to enjoy live music this year as well, thanks to two stages of entertainment and a large children's area. Specific performers had not been announced.
